Kiss cutting is a widely used method for making pressure-sensitive labels. In this process, a sharp metal die cuts around each label, but doesn’t cut through the backing material. This allows the labels to stay on the backing until they’re ready to be used. Kiss cutting also offers flexibility in the shape and design of the labels.
Kiss-cut labels offer several advantages:
- Easy Peel: The labels can be easily peeled off from the backing material, making them user-friendly.
- Multiple Labels on a Sheet: Many labels can be printed on a single sheet, which is especially useful for stickers or labels that come in sets.
- Customizable Shapes: Kiss-cutting allows for a variety of shapes and sizes, making it a versatile option for various applications.
- Convenient Storage: Since the labels remain on the backing until they’re ready to be used, they can be stored neatly and easily.
- Cost-Effective: Kiss-cutting is a cost-effective method for producing labels, especially when producing large quantities.
- Professional Appearance: Kiss-cut labels have a clean, professional appearance that makes them suitable for a wide range of uses.
Kiss-cut labels vs Die-cut labels
Kiss-cut labels and die-cut labels are both made using a sharp die, but they differ in how the die is used:
- Kiss-cut labels: In the kiss-cutting process, the die cuts only through the label material, leaving the backing material (liner) intact. This allows the labels to be peeled off individually without removing the entire sheet or roll from the backing.
- Die-cut labels: In contrast, die-cutting fully cuts through both the label material and the backing material, creating separate labels that are not connected to each other or the backing. These labels are typically used when individual labels are needed, rather than when a sheet or roll of connected labels is desired.
In summary, kiss-cut labels are a type of die-cut label that is cut only through the label material, leaving the backing material intact for easy removal. Die-cut labels are fully cut through both the label and backing materials, resulting in separate labels.
