An NCR Form is a type of multi-part form made from carbonless copy paper, also known as NCR paper. This special paper allows for the creation of multiple copies of a handwritten or impact-printed document at the same time. The term “NCR” comes from the company that developed this technology, NCR Corporation, which is a leader in consumer transaction technology.
NCR forms are widely used in the business world because they offer a quick and cost-effective way to make copies of important documents. These forms are commonly used for proposals, contracts, invoices, sales receipts, purchase orders, work orders, medical and insurance forms, employment applications, and more.
There are two main types of NCR forms: handwritten forms and continuous forms. Handwritten forms are filled out manually with a pen, while continuous forms are fed through an impact printer connected to a computer. NCR forms are often available in 2-part, 3-part, and 4-part formats, with each sheet being a different color (such as white, canary, pink, or goldenrod) to differentiate between the original and each subsequent copy.
How do NCR Forms Work?
NCR Forms work by using special paper with dye capsules and reactive clay. The top sheet of the form is coated with tiny dye capsules that break open when pressure is applied by writing or printing. These capsules release dye onto the next sheet, which is coated with reactive clay. The dye and clay chemically react to create a permanent mark. Each intermediate sheet in the form has a similar coating, and the last sheet has a clay layer but no dye coating. This process allows for accurate transfer of the original text to multiple copies.
