An Accordion Fold is a way of folding a document, like a brochure or a map, to make it easier to handle and store. It gets its name because it looks like the expandable part of an accordion musical instrument. Some people call the accordion fold a Zig-Zag fold or a Fan fold.
When you use the accordion fold, each panel opens fully and easily because each fold goes in the opposite direction of the one before it. This way, the folded paper doesn’t get bulky or hard to close.
People often choose the accordion fold for brochures because it’s cheaper than making a booklet. It’s also good for large maps and instruction sheets that need to be small but still have a lot of information.
